FanDuel is one of the largest providers of daily fantasy sports and related services. Although the original FanDuel product was served through traditional web browsers and targeted at users who were sitting at home on their desktop PCs or at work on their laptops, the company has been transitioning toward mobile-facing services since the beginning. The difference now is that mobile users are too large a group to ignore and the technology is finally catching it up with what FanDuel wants to achieve. With that in mind, let’s look at the FanDuel mobile site and app and consider why you would want to use them.
FanDuel Mobile Site Review
The goal of the mobile website is to recreate the desktop experience as much as possible, and FanDuel has really succeeded in this endeavor. It used to be that there was a button to switch to desktop mode at the bottom of the screen, but that is gone now, and if you force it by using that feature of your mobile device, then we challenge you to notice a difference. We could not. We accessed the site using a number of different devices, and even devices that were several or more years old handled the site just fine.
After logging in, the main display shows the available sports leagues available. Clicking on the sport will open up the available contest types for that sport, such as 50/50 leagues or Tournaments. Clicking on the type of contest will further drill down to reveal the available contests of that contest type. Below you will see the drilldown for NFL Tournaments (20+ players).
You may sort the list by Size, Entry fee, or Start time. You may also use the Filter to filter out certain types of contests or contests of certain entry fees.
You have the option of creating a league rather than joining a preexisting one, and you do that by clicking the green Create Contest button. Another important function of the mobile site is your history, which is where you can monitor and access the various leagues that you have joined. To access this, click the History tab, which is the rightmost tab at the very top of the screen.

FanDuel Mobile App Review
FanDuel App for iPhone supports the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It requires iOS 7.0 and was optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The app works well enough on the iPad, but the experience may be diminished on other devices.
For Android, FanDuel offers FanDuel Live, which is more a companion app than a full-featured implementation as the iOS version is. FanDuel does not currently support Windows Phone devices with an app, but the mobile website is accessible from the web browser on most of these devices.
The iPhone app uses a grid-approach that is similar to the core layout. The difference is that a lot less information fits on the screen, so you may find yourself hunting for it, and the filters are integrated into the grid, which makes them a bit less inconvenient. Using the app on an iPad does allow for more data, but it does not put the filters on screen as the site does.
The three-bar icon in the top right-hand corner gives you access to account control. The green horizontal bar gives you information about your current leagues, and clicking the History block lets you view your leagues as well as manipulate the information displayed in the two leftmost blocks. The grid is nested. The top layer lists sports, such as NFL and MLB. Clicking a sport will bring you to a list of league types, such as Head-to-Head or 50/50s, and clicking those will present you with a list of contests to join.
How to Download the App and Sign Up
The apps are downloadable from the FanDuel site. For Android, the site has a QR code that you can use to download the app easily. You may also find the apps from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
When you run the app for the first time, or if you choose for the app not to remember your info, it will ask for your login information. If you do not yet have an account, fill out the form with your name and email and choose a password. No verification is required right now. The site will ask you to claim your deposit bonus, but you can skip that for now simply by selecting the free games link.
FanDuel Mobile App vs. Mobile Site
The mobile site is more feature-rich, and those features are more easily accessed. FanDuel has really delivered on that goal of achieving a desktop-like experience on your mobile. It is worth noting that all of the mobile site features are available on the iOS app. This is not the case with the Android app. This is due to Google’s policy about apps featuring functionality that facilitates gambling, as Google defines it. Because of this, the Android app only allows you to view but not manipulate information.
The FanDuel mobile website is very impressive, and we love that we can switch between our laptop, tablet and phone and have the same experience. The experience does become a bit more clunky with smaller phone screens, and if you are using an iPhone, the app is probably the better choice. The Android companion app is a decent option to check on your leagues, but we found ourselves not using it because we needed to use the in order to accomplish anything.
